Dear Beloved Yoga Friends,
In light of COVID 19, I have taken my fear and used it to fuel my practice and teaching. I’ve been watching many of you courageous pioneers on social platforms for a couple of years and soaking up all the inspiration you’ve shared. Being on social media, FB or IG is very vulnerable for me and even though I have done acting for years…..this is a whole other thing. Posting on social media and online teaching is way out of my comfort zone.
I’ve waited and waited for the confidence and the courage to come. They didn’t. I just kept waiting. So, here we are. The time we’re living in is forcing us to transform and evolve exponentially and quickly. It's inviting a new way of relating to each other. There is no other option. If I want to connect with you and offer the world the unique gifts I have ( and ps this goes for you too) then we have to rise to the occasion and get online NOW.
Luckily for me, I work better when I’m under pressure and between a rock and a hard place! There’s no time for fear. No time for giving in to the doubt and fear that I’ve been witnessing for years. So many of us yoga teachers say…."let go of your ego”. While I too am guilty of saying this…..you really cannot let go of your ego. Well, here’s when you and I will let go of our ego. When we’re dead. As long as you and I are alive, the ego will be part of our human experience. So since the ego is always involved, will you act and express yourself from confidence, which is the positive side of the ego or arrogance which is confidence amplified. Or will you come from the other side of the ego’s coin and act from humility. Remember humility is not humiliation or insecurity, which is the underbelly of this side of the humility coin.
The two sides of the ego are forever united. So it just depends on which side of the ego you’re on and how far in either direction you go? Confidence/humility and the willingness to be seen or unseen are up to each of us.
Either way, it is an expression of the ego. I’ve been stuck on the insecurity side for years….and still feel my affinity for this more contracted, introverted side. I’ve been trying to tread my way to the other side and I guess the state of emergency we're in is giving me the push I needed to help me evolve and emerge into a whole new way of being.
My wish for us is that we all evolve and inspire health and wellness in ourselves and the world together.
As always please feel free to read both the Jivamukti Focus of the Month for March and April.
I will have more to say about each of them but for now, enjoy the food for the soul.
