drink from the silver cup
Without fail every time I’m blessed to listen to my teachers or read something they’ve written I am moved and awakened in some way. This month is no different. My dear teacher David Life has written an eye opening article about water. As David writes, "At our home in Woodstock, we have our own water well and I have taken the clear, untreated water for granted for many years.” While I don’t have well water at our house in Ohio, it seems as if there is an abundance of fresh, clean water that I too take for granted. While I attempt to turn off the water while brushing my teeth, I often forget and leave it running. Water down the drain.
Several years ago I started learning more about water and the affects of humanity on water in our world. I am conscious of it’s shortage when I visit my friends in L.A. and in order to save the water, "I let it mellow when it’s yellow and flush it down when it’s brown!" I also have been inspired by people like Colin Beaven, author otherwise known as “No Impact Man”. You can check out the trailer for his documentary about his family’s one year attempt on having ZERO IMPACT on the earth. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfQAeyLp1JU
I titled this newsletter “Drink from the silver cup” which is a line from the song by America “Lonely People”. If you drink from the silver cup, you may realize the difference you make in this life. Your choices and actions can either enhance life or diminish it. One of the benefits Colin and his family discovered in disconnecting the TV, using the stairs instead of an elevator, buying locally grown food verses plastic wrapped food is that they had more time for connecting with each other as well as becoming healthier and happier. I invite you to take a drink from the silver cup which for me is reading David’s Jivamukti Focus of the Month entitled H2OM. May you be as awakened and moved as I was. May you realize how powerful you and your actions are and may you use your best efforts to keep our planet lush, green and beautifully blue.
Here’s to clean drinking water for all beings everywhere.
